-
Where are you located? We are based in Keilor, Victoria, Australia, but we also accommodate interstate families.
-
Do you accommodate interstate families?Yes we do! For interstate adoptions, we can arrange a video call to introduce you to our kittens and show you around our cattery. We also send the kitten pack via mail, so your kitten arrives with everything they need for a smooth transition into your home. Please note, families are responsible for booking pet travel, and we can recommend trusted pet transport services to assist you.
-
Are you registered or a member to any organisations?Yes, we are proud members of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Victoria Inc (GCCFV). We strictly abide by their Code of Conduct, Constitution, and By-Laws to ensure the highest standards of care and ethical breeding. As part of our commitment under the GCCFV’s Code of Ethics: All kittens are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped before adoption (unless sold to a registered breeder). Kittens are only adopted after 10 weeks of age, after starting their vaccination program and being microchipped. Our queens are given breaks between litters for their health and are not bred again until their kittens are at least 17 weeks old. No queen has more than 8 litters in her lifetime. She is desexed after and either kept as a pet by us or rehomed. We do not sell kittens through pet shops, markets, or shelters — only directly to carefully screened families. New kitten owners are provided with written information about caring for their kitten, including desexing, parasite control, diet, grooming, and vaccinations. We provide new owners with the kitten's official registration records through GCCFV. We maintain a fair refund policy that complies with consumer law and the GCCFV guidelines. We comply with all relevant animal welfare legislation and are committed to the highest standards of responsible breeding. Please contact us if you'd like any further information regarding the above.

Are you an ethical breeder? At Purrsace, ethical breeding is the foundation of everything we do. We are registered with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Victoria (GCCFV) and fully comply with their Code of Conduct, Constitution, and By-Laws. Our ethical practices include: Health Testing: All breeding cats are DNA tested for hereditary diseases such as HCM and PKD. Limited Breeding: We have minimal litters per year, ensuring every queen has proper rest between litters and no queen has more than eight litters in her lifetime without veterinary approval. Home-Raised Kittens: Kittens are raised in our home, not in cages, with supervised access to an outdoor catio, and daily interaction with humans and our family dog. Early Veterinary Care: Kittens are vaccinated, desexed, microchipped, wormed, and vet-checked before leaving. Lifetime Commitment: We provide ongoing support to our families and have a lifetime return policy for all kittens we breed. Responsible Matching: We carefully screen prospective families to ensure each kitten is placed into a loving, appropriate home environment. Transparency: We offer video calls, visits, and are happy to share veterinary records and registration documents for peace of mind. We believe ethical breeding is about raising kittens with love, responsibility, and integrity. Always putting their health, wellbeing, and future happiness first.
-
What health testing do you do?Our breeding cats are tested for: HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) via DNA PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) via DNA We also conduct regular veterinary health checks.
-
How are the kittens raised? All our kittens are raised indoors as part of our family. They have free access to our cat-proofed home, a dedicated kitten nursery room for their safety, and supervised access to a secure outdoor catio for fresh air and enrichment. They are exposed to normal household sounds (such as vacuuming, televisions, and kitchen noises) and socialise daily with humans through cuddling, play, and gentle handling. Our French Bulldog, Hela, is also an important part of their socialisation, helping them build confidence around other animals. This nurturing environment ensures your kitten grows up to be a well-adjusted, affectionate, and confident companion.

Under no circumstances should a Purrsace kitten be surrendered to a shelter or sold privately without consulting us first. We are committed to every kitten we bring into the world.
-
Can we visit before adoption or have a video call to meet the kittens?Yes, we encourage all families to visit us in person or arrange a video call before reserving a kitten. Meeting the kittens beforehand allows you to see their personalities, ask questions, and helps ensure the best match for your family. We also welcome and encourage further visits as your kitten grows, to help strengthen the bond between you before they join your home.
-
When can your kittens go to their new homes? We believe 10–12 weeks is the optimal window for adoption to support a kitten’s social, emotional, and physical development. During this period: Kittens learn essential social skills from their mother and littermates. They begin to form strong, individual bonds with humans. They are healthier, having received their first vaccinations and preventative care. They are ready for desexing, microchipping, and other veterinary procedures. Adopting earlier can hinder their development; this timeframe ensures they are well-adjusted, confident, and ready for their new homes.
-
How much are your kittens? Why are they expensive? Our prices vary depending on coat colour, pattern, rare markings, show quality and lineage. Contact us for specific pricing. We understand this may seem like a significant investment compared to others, but the difference lies in the level of care, ethics, and quality we uphold: Limited, carefully planned litters: We have minimal litters each year to ensure that every queen has adequate rest between litters, preserving her long-term health and ensuring that every kitten receives the best start to life. Exceptional health care and nutrition: Our kittens and breeding cats are fed a premium raw diet, supplemented with high-quality nutrition to support optimal growth, development, and coat condition. They receive regular veterinary care, are vaccinated, desexed, microchipped, wormed, and are raised in a hygienic, stimulating home environment — not cages. Intensive socialisation and attention: Each kitten is raised underfoot in our home and given daily socialisation, enrichment, and individual attention. This ensures they are not only physically healthy but emotionally confident, affectionate, and well-prepared for family life. Genetic and Health Testing: All our breeding cats are tested clear for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) by DNA testing, helping ensure the long-term health of your new family member. Lifetime support: Our commitment doesn’t end when you take your kitten home. We offer ongoing support to all our families, and should unforeseen circumstances arise, we provide a lifetime return policy. Ethical standards: We are proud members of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Victoria (GCCFV) and strictly follow their Code of Conduct, ensuring that every aspect of our breeding and adoption process meets the highest ethical standards.

What makes Ragdolls different from other cat breeds?Ragdolls combine dog-like loyalty, gentle affection, beauty, and easy-going nature in a way few other breeds can match. They are incredibly social, making them perfect for families, couples, or singles who want a true companion. Their calm energy, trainability, and affectionate behaviour set them apart as one of the most beloved breeds worldwide.
-
How active are Ragdolls?Ragdolls are generally calm and moderately active. They enjoy playtime but are equally happy lounging and relaxing next to their humans. Interactive toys and climbing furniture are appreciated, but they aren't hyperactive cats.
-
Are Ragdolls good with other pets?Ragdolls are usually very sociable and adapt well to other pets, including other cats and even dogs (especially when introduced properly). Their relaxed temperament makes them less territorial and more welcoming of new furry friends.
-
Can Ragdolls live indoors?Yes — and they should! Ragdolls are best kept as indoor-only cats. Their trusting nature makes them poorly equipped to handle outdoor dangers. A secure outdoor catio is a great way to give them safe outdoor access if desired.
-
What is the life expectancy of a Ragdoll, and why is choosing a good breeder important?Ragdolls typically live up to 15 years, with many reaching 16 years or more with excellent care. Choosing a reputable breeder plays a critical role in your kitten’s long-term health and happiness. Ethical breeders screen for genetic diseases like Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), provide proper early veterinary care, and raise kittens in a clean, loving home environment. These early investments in health, socialisation, and nutrition give your kitten the best possible start. Helping ensure they grow into a healthy, confident, and well-adjusted companion who can share your life for many years to come. Buying from a backyard breeder or pet shop often carries hidden risks, including poor genetics, health problems, and behavioural issues due to poor early socialisation. When you choose a registered, ethical breeder like Purrsace, you are making a commitment to quality, care, and a lifetime of love.
-
Are Ragdolls vocal?Ragdolls are generally quiet cats compared to other breeds. They have soft, sweet voices and will "chat" to their owners with gentle chirps and meows, especially around mealtimes or when seeking attention.
-
What is the personality of a Ragdoll cat?Ragdolls are famous for their gentle, affectionate, and laid-back personalities. They often seek out human company and love to follow their owners from room to room. Many owners describe them as being "dog-like" in their loyalty and desire for companionship.
-
Can Ragdolls be trained?Absolutely! Ragdolls are intelligent and respond well to positive reinforcement. They can be trained to come when called, walk on a leash, play fetch, and use scratching posts and litter boxes easily.
-
Are Ragdolls good with children?Yes! Ragdolls are known for their patient and tolerant nature, making them wonderful companions for families with young children. They enjoy being cuddled and handled gently and typically adapt well to the energy of a busy household.
-
Are Ragdolls completely hypoallergenic? No breed is truly hypoallergenic. However, some people with mild cat allergies find Ragdolls more tolerable due to their lower oil production and silkier fur. Always spend time with a Ragdoll beforehand if you have allergies to assess your reaction.
-
Do Ragdolls shed a lot?Ragdolls do shed, especially seasonally, but they have a silky, low-maintenance coat that does not mat easily. Weekly brushing is usually enough to keep their coat in beautiful condition and reduce loose hair around your home.
-
How big do Ragdolls get?Ragdolls are one of the largest domestic cat breeds. Males typically weigh between 6–9 kg, while females are slightly smaller at 4.5–7 kg. They continue growing slowly until about 3–4 years of age.
